My first table makeover

With all the crafty DIY projects I have been doing for the wedding, it got me itching to do projects for the house. We bought our house 2 years ago and I finally am starting to seriously decorate. I know...why wait 2 years. I just couldn't spend money on items that we were going to put on our registry if people wanted to get us wedding gifts. I'm frugal and the wedding was more important...so that's where all the extra money went.

I bought this table off Craigs.list. Not a bad table...some wouldn't do anything to it. We had just gotten rid of every piece of gold in our kitchen/dining room so I wasn't about to add some back with those dated handles and the color wouldn't match anything in my house.

I first removed all the hardware and then sanded the table and drawers.

Then came priming...

After I painted and distressed the table...I felt like the table was a bit too bright and needed something to tint it a bit darker and make it look more antique. I decided to mix dark walnut stain and clear glaze in a cup. I painted this all over the table...let it sit for a little bit and then wiped it off with an old t-shirt.

Here is the final product all purdy in my entry way...

Up close of the distressing I did & the new hardware...

Paint Color: Martha Stewart Living - Glass of Milk
Top Coat: Minwax Polycrylic Semi Gloss

The one thing I learned while doing this project was I should have either colored the primer or added a color after the primer and before the top paint color. When I started to distress, the primer started showing through instead of just the wood. I would be more happy it I didn't see the primer. You can't notice it unless you are examining it. Since it's not that bad...it will stay how it is. I am so happy and proud how it turned out.

I have already bought 2 more pieces of furniture and am in the process of doing my 2nd makeover. So fun...
