I am now at the point where I need to shop for Turner for clothes that fit him. We were pretty much gifted everything up to this point and now that he's growing out of everything...I need to do a total wardrobe makeover.
[as I do this for my lil' guy, if anyone wants to buy me a whole new closet full of clothes, feel free ;)]
I need help though. I have no idea how much to buy...how many pairs of pants, how many shirts, etc.
There are 2 consignment sales coming up right when tax season ends that I plan to hit up (I am not above hand me downs..I'm frugal and a realist! My child gets everything dirty with either food, poop, pee or anything else he can get his hands on...I refuse to spend loads of money on items he ruins and grows out of within 3 months). I like to go with a plan though. A plan on what he needs and what to buy. I need to do an inventory of what we already have and then go from there.
So I need other mama's help. How much of each piece of clothing do I need? What have found best for a 12 month old that is walking (I can bank that he will be walking by one since he is almost to that point)? I plan to buy 12 month and 18 month size to get me through until the next consignment sale that happens in the fall.

And what's a post without a photo of my adorable baby...
Linking up with Kristin @ Mama & Mou today!!!
We always have at least a weeks worth of daycare clothes (soft pants, t-shirts), 3-4 pairs of jeans, and a lot of shirts (polos, button downs, nicer tee's). We also have a couple sweatshirts on hand, but he rarely wears them since we live in warm weather climate.
ReplyDeleteFor Abbie, I have at LEAST 7-10 bottoms, 10-15 tops, and 7-10 jammies. Since she's a girl, I also have a LOT of casual dresses for her. Does he tend to go through outfits a lot during the day? Abbie's at the point that a lot of times she's able to wear the same outfit all day, so that helps our laundry. If you don't mind doing laundry a lot, you can get away with the minimum, but I always err on the side of too many, just in case.
ReplyDeleteI love your thought process on the clothes. They are babies and get clothing dirty, why spend the money on something could be worn/ruined within a couple wears. Also, save your money for when they actually CARE about what they are wearing, right? Good luck at the consignment sales!!
ReplyDeleteI love consignment sales. Most of Cash's clothes are hand me downs from cousins or friends or I've purchased at consignment sales. Love me a good deal!
ReplyDeleteI am the exact same way with clothes. I LOVE consignment and places like Once Upon a Child. I do the same thing before every season. I try and buy at least 1 weeks worth of clothing at each sale I am at. So 7 bottoms, 7 tops, 7 jammies, etc. You will most likely continue to get some clothing, too for birthdays and stuff. And then obviously when I am out and about I will pick up a few things here and there. You will also have to think about shoes, too now that he is walking and with the summer coming up. Walmart has good sales on clothes, etc. I know people hate on it and I don't' shop there often, but I do go there for a few specific things that I can't get anywhere else.
ReplyDeletei am reading the above comments and love the idea of a weeks worth of clothes! thats a really great way to approach it. i personally just go for whats needed at the time, most of the time its jammies or one thongs vs the other like pants but not shirts or a pair of daycare shoes and or a light coat or two.... i can not wait for sale season!!!! i also almost always find a holiday outfit or two.... those are hard for me to spend 30+ dollars on for a one time use.
ReplyDeletehahahaha thongs..... i meant one thing or the other* doh!! hahahaha
ReplyDeleteWe have so very much. My sister in law gave us storage bags filled with clothes for our son (she has 2 boys) Now I feel overwhelmed with too much clothes. I have purchased a few cute things but she has given us the basics; pjs, pants and onsies. We have been very lucky but I feel like I'm swimming in baby clothes!
ReplyDeleteI think it depends on how often you do laundry.. I do my son's laundry every 4 days or so (first colors/darks then lights) so I need about 8 sets of clothes. We always run out of pj's first and have too many pairs of jeans!
ReplyDeleteI also love the consignment sales! I tend to put Easton in shorts/pants and tshirts for daycare. We have jammies and then some options for dress up clothes.
ReplyDeleteI have always wanted to go to a consignment sale. I think because a bazillion people go to them, I have always had some anxiety about going to them! I need to know more though!
ReplyDeleteAs for clothes, I always buy up. I would rather have Aubrey be in clothes that are a little baggy than too small. Pants, if I find a great deal, I tend to buy a few different sizes and then just hoard them until she fits into them. Shirts I buy baggy. I've noticed that Target stuff tends to run small, so I always buy up and extra size just in case.
As for how much- I think we always tend to buy too much for Aubrey- For fall/winter she has about 3 weeks worth of shirts, a week and a half worth of pants and about a months worth of socks (and undies but you aren't there yet). I do have to say that some of the shirts fit last year and we reused them this winter and she has some shirts that are a little baggy that she'll end up wearing again next year most likely.
It's all confusing but as long as he has something to wear, you are in good shape!
It's funny you just posted about this as I have a post scheduled for the next day or so about my way to save money when buying clothes for Aubrey.
Oh lord, I have not clue how many items of each thing we have for Drew but I'm hitting up my first consignment sale tomorrow and am just going to load up for baby girl coming this Sunday! I do know that I stopped buying anything white for Drew for daycare as they always got too dirty!
ReplyDeleteStopping by from Mama and Mou. I think you need to post a recap of your consignment sale stash....I've never been but I'm sure you will get a ton of stuff! I think you should listen to the other mamas because I have a tendancy to over shop for my little guy. =)
