I've wanted to update our bedding for awhile now, but could never find just the right comforter, pattern or colors. It was time to do something because Tate and I were strongly disliking the frumpy colors that we currently had and the comforter had been through a beating in the 2.5 years it's been in use. Every time I would wash it, something new would pop up that was wrong with it. It was either a huge hole, threading coming undone or all the inside being on one side and making it lopsided looking.
This is what it has looked like since we bought the house and moved in. Well actually....the table on the left side of the photo was not there until about a year ago. I was sick of not having anything to put my phone on or a lamp, so I took an old table I had and just stuck it over there. Wishing now we would have gotten two night stands. Not liking how the lamps are on different levels. Going to look into and see if this furniture is still available.
I also didn't like how the massive pillows were hiding the headboard. So I decided to go buy an alternative down comforter so that when we what to 'change' it up again, we can buy a duvet cover to insert the down comforter into.
The skirt that hides the beautiful wood base board and collects Mya's hair.
I also bought some new pillow cases to add something different to the room. I really like how the head wood sticks out more and isn't drowned by the colors of the old comforter.
We decided to keep the bed skirt on, but to tuck it into the base board. That way, it still covers the box spring and shows the base board.
I like the change. I love the down comforter and the way the room lights up now and doesn't feel dark. I would like to do more to 'update' the room.
- New lamp shades
- Possibly spray paint lamp base with a pop of color
- Check to see if night stand is still available and purchase for my side of the bed (also measure to make sure it would fit)
- New ceiling fan
- Mirror on the wall behind our door so I don't have to walk downstairs when I get ready to see how my outfit looks (wow...that sounded really lazy. I think any female can back me up when we are trying on 5 different outfits and have to walk down 2 levels...it gets annoying) haha!
- Wall decor
- New candles for candle holders on wall
I've noticed that when I think everything that I want to do with the house...I get anxiety because I am a person that doesn't like to wait and wants it done as fast as possible. I've learned that I need to take a step back and only do one room at a time. I am currently working on the office, which is almost finished. I really wanted to update our bedding so I just quick did it and plan to come back to our bedroom to get everything else done on my list. I'm learning patience...

It looks great!! I hear ya on needing a new comforter to spice up the room-- they just get old after a few years, yanno? We only have ONE bedside table too!! Haha. We got our bedroom set like 7 years ago (STILL love it to death) but we lived in an apartment and we didn't have room for a 2nd table (okay, we were in college, money was tight too ;-))
ReplyDeleteSince I was browsing your blog after seeing your beautiful Ikea transformation, I saw this post and wanted to share my professional insight to maybe help you with your design and update of your bedroom {your room is beautiful, don't get me wrong, I just sometimes can't help myself and put in my two cents}...I would change the lamps to larger ones, the ones you have scale wise are too small in comparison to the furniture. And if they don't have the matching bedside tables, I tall round one would look good as well. Adding a folded quilt at the bottom of the bed is an easy and inexpensive way to add color to the bedding. These things can be bought individually as budget allows but will make big impacts as you do them. :)
